Tony Dungy and Impending Retirement? Somebody do Something

Indianapolis Colts v Detroit Lions

In an interview with Al Michaels, Coach Tony Dungy left Colts fans with a clear message.  He is going to drive us crazy all week while he decides whether to stay or go.  So, we’re out of the Playoffs and while other teams and their fans will be looking for Saturday wins, we’ll be waiting for a Saturday-I’m Outtie! or Okay, I’ll stay… This is not how I pictured this week to go.  Screw all the resolutions and every nice thing I planned on doing in 2009, as the first official week of the new year bites.

Here’s the thing.  Dungy cited the fact that Indy has issues with high murder rates and kids who drop out of school too much.  He wants to help them.  First off, did the nation really have to know how violent and slacker-ish we are here?  Secondly, stop dropping out of school and murdering people, you are ruining my life, murderers and drop-outs of Indianapolis. Yeah and the people that get murdered don’t like it either.  So, if Dungy leaves, it’s your fault.

But then Dungy also said that he wanted to spend more time with his son, who is a Senior in high school and a football player.  This may not be such a bad thing.  If we can convince, oh let’s say 75%, of local high schoolers to drop out then he can “help” them-by coaching.  Oh and we have some slackers around here (I know because I was one of them).  Imagine, Tony Dungy as a high school coach.  How can we pull this off?  I can’t exploit the Charger kid to write a letter to him, maybe my only true blue son can do it by expressing his desire to drop out of the 5th grade out of fear of being murdered.  And okay, that was a JOKE people, if you knew where in Indiana I lived, it would be funnier, as the most violent things that go on around here usually involve sports parents and officials.  And OK, the sports parent involved is usually me.

It would be a big loss, but I like Dungy's priorities. You would think after what happened to his other son he would have quit a while ago.

Yes, Coach Dungy very much values the community and the youth, there was a great outpouring of support for him with the terrible loss of his son and though nothing in this world could be worse than what he and his family endured, the community was there. So, yes him continuing to be a part of the community is a good thing both for him and for anyone whose life he is a part of.

Nothing but respect for Dungy. Colts would definitely suffer without him.
