Gear Up For Colts Football

Colts Notes: Sorgi Has My Vote

Indianapolis Colts v Atlanta Falcons

Okay second-stringer a.k.a. Sorgi cynics, you can now rest assured that the Colts do have a solid second string after the colossal shut-out victory over the Titans. Well, for that matter, we came to realize that we have an adequate third string and even a decent practice squad from the myriad of new faces we saw on Sunday. But, the big second string story is on Sorgi.

Like I said, sorry cynics, but the guy is good. No more cringing in fear when Peyton has a hangnail or stubs his toe. Sorgi proved that he means business. Who exactly, may I ask, threw the pass to Harrison that put him over 1,102 receiving yards making him the 2nd highest all-time receiver in football history? Was it Manning? Nope, it was Sorgi and as the announcers so succinctly put it, when this particular trivia question comes up in years to come, will people be able to believe it, let alone answer it? Maybe Sorgi will step up and be seen more, but will it be with our Colts? Like I said, the guy means business, so what does this mean for the business of football?

Some of us may be wondering if Dungy should have hidden this guy under a rock until Peyton’s retirement (and let’s hope that won’t happen for quite a while). After all, when you look at Sorgi’s new found skills in comparison with even other starting quarterbacks across the NFL (and I’m not naming names yet, I’ll save it for the Playoff trash-talk) he is impressive. Will someone try to lure him away like they did the “Edge”?

Oh, I can’t help but to get a dig in on this one by saying, “the Arizona who? They have a team?” Of course they do, but I’d as soon watch the Raiders. At least the Raiders did something right this season by putting the Bucs out of contention. But, I digress, back to the point. Sorgi may be worth money now, so will he be scooped up after this season or will the Colts pay him more? As fans, we need to know this. Our precious Hoosier Dome, later known as the RCA Dome was imploded last week along with our memories (sniff, sniff) and we as fans are paying big for the new Lucas Oil Stadium. What will the Colts pay for the second string hero or another team for a starter? These are thoughts to ponder in the off-season, I suppose. But, as a die-hard fan, I have to have something to watch for after the Colts bring back another ring.

FYI: The word is out, the Edge will not be returning to the Cardinals next year despite another year on his contract...the lesson here is Colts players DON'T let yourself get lured away ;)

Yeah well, Irsay wants to keep the fans happy. You should have seen the fan reaction when Peyton hit his finger on someone's helmet during a game last season...I thought there might have been an angry mob with torches on the scene from the previous unhappy thoughts on Sorgi. Maybe it would be worth it to keep him to prevent fans from having panic attacks and/or rioting in the street. :)

They have Manning locked up for quite a few years. Not sure how much much money you want to tie up in the back up QB, especially in the Colts case where Manning contract eats so much salary cap.
